
| Strawberry Carrousel Shortcake
1 quart of strawberries 1 cup of sugar 2 cups of flour 2 tablespoons of sugar 3 teaspoons of baking powder 1 teaspoon of salt 1/3 cup of shortening 1 cup of milk Butter or margarine, softened Cream or sweetened whipped cream |

Sprinkle strawberries with 1 cup sugar; let stand 1 hour. Heat oven to 450ºF. Grease round layer pan (8 x 1 1/2 inch). Stir together flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening. Stir in milk just until blended. Spread dough in pan. Bake until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Split layer crosswise while hot. Spread with butter or margarine; fill and top with berries. Serve warm with cream. Makes 8 servings. |
