*Washington Monument - It is free to visit the Washington Monument. If you wish to take the elevator ride to the top, you must get a ticket. The ticket kiosk for the monument is located at the base of the monument on 15th street. It opens at 8:30 am to distribute free tickets on a first come first serve basis. One person may pick up to six tickets maximum. (I was there at 10am on a Saturday, and all of the tickets for the day were already issued. ) Go early and get a ticket!! I went on Sunday Morning about 9:00 and got tickets for the 1:30 pm ride to the top.) The views from atop the Washington Monument were awe inspiring.
