Apple Fritters

1 cup of flour
1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
2 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of milk
1 egg
5 or 6 tart apples or 1 3/4 cup of applesauce

Mix and sift flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add milk and well-beaten egg. Mix well. Pare and core apples. Cut into sections or slices. Dip in batter and fry in deep hot Crisco until brown. Drain on unglazed paper and sprinkle with powdered sugar. SUBSTITUTIONS: Banana, pineapple, peach, apricot or oranges.
