Pumpkin Apple Pie

4 cups of raw pumpkin, cut in small chunky pieces
2 cups of sliced apples
1 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
1 teaspoon of grated lemon rind or 1/2 teaspoon of lemon extract
1/4 cup of butter

 

Combine all ingredients except butter and mix well. Put them into a 9 inch pie shell. Dot the top with butter and cover with top crust. Bake for 15 minutes in 400ºF. oven; then reduce heat to 325ºF.  and continue to bake for 45 additional minutes.
