| Preheat oven to 425ºF. Place the apples in a 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle with 1 cup of sugar, cinnamon and almond extract, dot with 2 tablespoons of butter. Sift flour, baking powder, 1/3 cup of sugar and salt together into mixing bowl. Cut in 1/4 cup of butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until the mixture is slightly coarser than cornmeal. Combine the egg and milk in separate bowl, pour into flour mixture. Stir just enough to combine, spoon over apples in baking dish. Bake for 30 minutes, until browned. Serve with whipped cream, sour or ice cream, if desired. Serves 6 -8 |
