1 pound of green beans, cleaned, trimmed, cut diagonally 4 medium white onions, sliced 2 green peppers, chopped 2 - 4 cups of bread crumbs, rolled in 1/4 c. melted butter |

Place beans, onions and peppers in layers in baking dish. Sprinkle any seasoning between layers. End with beans on top. Place a layer of the bread crumbs on top. Bake, uncovered in 375ºF. degree oven, approximately 1 hour. Bread should be crispy.
NOT COMBINING: Add slices of crisp cooked bacon to beans before adding bread layer. Add layer of grated cheese on top of bread approximately 10 minutes before serving. Low Calorie Green Bean casserole 2
two 10 ounce packages of frozen green beans 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion 1/4 cup of water 1/2 teaspoon of salt one 10 1/2 ounce can of cream of mushroom soup one 4 ounce can of mushrooms, drained and chopped
Cook green beans, chopped onion, and salt in water until green beans are tender. Drain. Stir in soup and mushrooms. Spray a casserole dish with nonstick coating spray. Pour green bean mixture into casserole dish; bake at 350ºF. for 30 minutes or until mixture is heated through.
Yield: 8 (1/2 cup servings). Exchanges: 1 vegetable and 1 fat. Calories: 47. 100 g = 5 cholesterol, 2 protein, 5 fat. Low sodium (3-4 gm Na); Use low sodium mushroom soup. Low cholesterol: not allowed. |
