| | Low Salt White Bread
2 tablespoons of sugar 3 tablespoons of vegetable shortening (unsalted) 1 cup of lukewarm water 1/2 cake compressed yeast 3 cups plus 1 tablespoon of flour 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
Put the sugar and the vegetable shortening in a large bowl. Add the water. Sprinkle the yeast over the lukewarm mixture. Mix. Add half of the flour and stir with wooden spoon. Add rest of flour and stir well. Knead the dough with floured hands until smooth and place in greased bowl. Spread melted butter over dough, cover with towel and let rise in warm place until dough doubles in size. Knead again. Shape into loaf. Place in greased loaf pan . Spread the remaining butter on top and cover. Let rise until double in bulk. Bake at 400ºF. for about 30 to 35 minutes. Dough will rise twice as fast without fast. Makes 1 loaf
